Indra Group has reached an agreement with the CPS Group to acquire Wake Engineering’s unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) technology. The move aims to further strengthen Indra’s market position and accelerate capability development in response to Spain’s Special Modernization Programs (PEM) as well as significant international growth opportunities in the UAS sector.
Accelerating Special Modernization Programs
The acquisition will enable Indra to accelerate its response to the PEM, for which pre-financing has already been approved. The program envisions the delivery of 49 medium-range class-I UAS, some equipped with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technology.
Wake Engineering’s VTOL Prototypes
Wake, a CPS Group company focused on the design, development, and production of UAS, already operates flight-proven prototypes with VTOL capability. Its design can be integrated into the avionics and mission systems of Indra Group’s TARSIS family of unmanned aerial systems. All systems share a common technological base to deliver high-capability intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) means in support of the Armed Forces.
Strengthening Indra’s Weapons & Ammunitions Division
With the purchase of Wake’s UAS technology, Indra Group will bolster its Indra Weapons & Ammunitions division, which focuses on unmanned vehicles, anti-drone systems, precision guidance, and directed energy solutions. The transaction will contribute to securing national technological sovereignty in the drone sector while positioning Spanish industry for near-term international opportunities favoring VTOL solutions in both naval and civilian domains, offering significant future growth potential.
Alignment with ReArm Europe Plan
Indra Group continues to position itself to compete for contracts under the €800 billion ReArm Europe plan, which identifies UAS as a strategic priority. Earlier this year, Indra also acquired Aertec Defence & Aerial Systems, incorporating its TARSIS family of tactical systems into Indra’s product portfolio.
